Chapter 11

Steve never even got a sip of his coffee; he tossed the cup and bounded to his feet rushing towards the tank. Jack was already climbing up the back and Patrick, whom had felt the vibrations through the ground, was rushing towards the tank as well.

"Jack, you speak German you do the talking, I'll drive, Patrick, man the main gun," Steve ordered.

Slipping into the driver's seat, Steve took a moment to familiarize himself with the controls, compared to the helo, these were the most basic, though everything was labeled in German, he could pretty much figure out what was what.

Patrick loaded the main gun while Jack put his German cap on and stood inside the turret next to the mounted MG machine gun.

The tank rumbled to a start, belching a cloud of black smoke. Though the engine was loud, he could still hear the coming armor, and he drew his attention to the left where the road curved beyond the bridge.

Suddenly a staff car appeared followed by two motorcycles and then a truck containing troops, two wheeled armor cars and then three tanks.

Steve watched also through the driver's port in the front. Unless they were deadly accurate, they would be taken out quickly, there were too many troops and two tanks too many.

"Patrick, no pressure, but you better make every shot count... every shot," Steve all but yelled over the tanks rumbling engine.

Taking a deep breath, Patrick kept the gun sight on the rear tank, the turret slowly moving towards the right following.

"Captain, I'm going to take out the rear tank and then as quickly, the front one, I am going to go after the armored cars the same way and hopefully bottle them," he yelled back.

"Steve, there is too much armor here, we can't hope to take it all out," Jack said.

"If we don't the town is going to be toast," Steve replied.

"Steve, move the tank forward, block the entrance to the bridge, Patrick, don't fire a shot until I tell you. Maybe I can talk our way out of this," Jack said to everyone.

Jack no sooner spoke when Steve moved the tank forward and to the right blocking any vehicle from crossing the bridge.

Jack spied the staff car as it came to a halt on the other side of the bridge. He knew just blocking them from crossing would be taken as a hostile act.

He waved his hand high in the air and smiled.

VonBrock ordered the driver to stop before crossing the bridge, he could see the tank moving forward to block them from crossing and to him it raised a flag. He spied the other tank which was destroyed. He then noticed the man waving to him from the only remaining tank.

"Remain here, do not cross the bridge," he said to the driver.

As soon as the convoy stopped, troops poured out taking up defensive positions. Jack again waved, and this time yelled a greeting as he continued to smile. He then started to climb out of the tank.
